Among the besieged communities include Uba, Mubi, Mararraban, Mubi and Vintim.
A security source who confirmed the attack, said the insurgents encountered the Nigerian troops in a fierce battle and splint into groups and some headed to Uba as others moved towards Mubi town.
According to the source the insurgents overrun the military barracks situated in Mubi.
He said there were gunshots and bombardment close to the military Barracks.
"Mubi has now become a ghost of its former self, people in hundreds are fleeing to scamper for their lives," he said.
A resident from Uba told journalists that the terrorists had taken over the town.
"We are in serious trouble. Boko Haram has taken our towns, they split into different groups and some are moving towards Mararraban, Mubi and Vintim. As I am talking to you now, residents are scampering for their lives for fear of imminent attack and uncertainty," he said.
Another source said the terrorists overran Madagali and Bazza.
The insurgents came in hundreds and started shooting sporadically on the residents, resulting to the death of undisclosed number of people.
Confirming the incident, the State Governor, Bala James, Ngillari asked the people of the state, particularly those in the affected areas to remain calm as security agents were on top of the situation. Speaking through his Press Director, Phineas Elisha, the governor said the development was unfortunate.
"The governor has metwith security chiefs in the state and had made frantic efforts to put the situation to rest. People should remain calm, security agents are on the top of situation," he said.
